The Deepest Canyon

a man discover canyon by horse

A morning ride to Kagbeni, following the bed of the Kali Gandaki River—by some calculations the deepest canyon in the world—takes you through arid, almost lunar landscape.

A sturdy Himalayan pony is surely the best way to take in Mustang’s weird scenery, lying between the towering, 26000-feet massifs of Annapurna to the east and Dhaulagiri to the west. With an MLN horseman as your guide on your morning ride, you’ll trot past summer nomad camps and isolated orchards, through meadows and brooks, to aforementioned Kagbeni (subject of a movie by the same name), and be back to soak off the dust of the road in a blissful bath by mid afternoon.
