Fantastic Creatures

On the hunt for The Abominable Snowman and other beasts? Start at Khumjung.

Khumjung, a two hour trek from Namche, is the home of the famous Yeti scalp, still on view at the village monastery. Back in the 1960s, the scalp traveled the world as proof of the elusive Yeti. More recent tests suggest that its original owner was a Himalayan antelope, a Serow—but bring the family and decide for yourselves. Besides, there are plenty of other rare creatures in this area. There's a bird sanctuary nearby, and Himalayan Monals, Blood Pheasants, Lammergeiers and Golden Eagles are regular sights in the sky.
